2016 has flown by and we've had another crazy year at Nubian Skin HQ! You've showed us so much love and we are continuously grateful for your support!
January kicked off with our Curve Hosiery range. We were so pleased to finally be able to offer hosiery for all shapes and colours! We had a lot of fun on our shoot….
We were featured in lots of magazines, so much love for the Curve!
Ade was also the UK’s Favourite British designer at the UKLA…
We picked up some more stockists and were really excited to have Figleaves on board!
We were over the moon to be featured as part of Leomie Anderson’s ‘Black Model Survival Kit’ on Essence.com!
House of Fraser also picked up our lingerie online! It was amazing to have such a great UK retailer behind us!
After that something unbelievable happened. That’s right, BEYONCÉ AND HER DANCERS WORE NUBIAN SKIN FOR THE FORMATION TOUR!! We didn’t believe it at first (Ade thought it might be a scam) but it really was real!
It really was unbelievable to have an artist like Beyoncé choose to wear Nubian Skin as the base of the costumes for the Formation Tour, and the fact that her Team knew about the brand and have selected it is testament to the work we're trying to do!
May was our first ever pop-up at Love Die Late in London with the amazing Castellanos! It was great to actually finally meet our customers and to work with the wonderful Priscilla again…
In June we then had our Chocolate and Lace pop-up at our FAVOURITE Chocolate shop in London, Dark Sugars! It was again great to meet people and for them to be able to meet our lingerie in the flesh! The Runaway bra even joined in and got herself a hot chocolate!
Later in August Ade was shortlisted and a finalist in the Entrepreneur category of the Black British Business Awards!
At the end of the month we were delighted to launch our first made in and inspired by Africa range: Moroccan Nights! It was brilliant to work with such an inspired group of creatives on this project, and of course our stunning model Laurence Sessou…
August was the month Ade appeared on Vox Africa….
AND on Radio 4 Woman’s Hour! Awesome!
Our products also arrived in Nigeria! We were really pleased to be stocked at Sshhh Lingerie Boutique in Lekki and Lulu Lingerie in Abuja – two fantastic Nigerian boutiques. We also worked with the fantastic Blueprint Africa to create some images in celebration of the launch….
In September, Ade was back at the BBC again (she's a regular now), being interviewed on Radio 1xtra with Jamz Supernova!
We evolved again! Time for another move, this time to a space with a separate warehouse and office. And potentially an office dog….
Then Melanie Bencosme produced an awesome video about us, we were seriously excited to be featured on NBC…!!
We also had a few big orders go out, so we all got stuck in with some picking and packing in the new warehouse...
Then it was Black History month which meant that Ade was involved in lots of talks including WCAN, What a Woman and Black Ballad Presents…
In November we had our first ever warehouse sale, and even built a make-shift changing room! We were very proud of it! It was great to see all of our lovely customers and we were so grateful that they stopped by. We also had a sale online for those who couldn't make it and we had so many UK orders!!
And then in December we had the most amazing Christmas party and the Team went to see the wonderful Beverley Knight in The Bodyguard!!
So what next? We’ve been working hard at developing a few things and can’t wait to show you what we have in store!
Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Here’s to 2017 being full of joy and the best year yet!
