We all have our favorite bra which we love to death and wear over and over again – but when do you say enough is enough, and how do you know when to replace them? We want you to get the most out of your bra so we thought we’d share our top tips on caring for your loved one (AKA bra).
Store them correctly – make sure you carefully store your bras to protect them. It’s really easy to throw them into your draw without a second thought, but they will end up jumbled and tangled with the rest of your underwear. Stack them behind one another to help them keep their original shape.
Wash every 2 – 3 wears and try not to wear the same bra two days in a row if you can help it! It will help the bra to maintain its elasticity – and therefore proper support!
If you must use a washing machine – use a lingerie bag (it stops lingerie getting tangled and twisted) and be sure to use a gentle cycle – cool water is better than hot.
But if you can…hand wash them whenever you can! Soak them in warm soapy water (preferably alcohol free), rinse in cool water, press in a towel to remove excess water and hang to dry.
Hook the backs before you wash – this prevents any potential tangling or any ripping of lace materials.
Never use a dryer: this is a big no-no! Make sure you always hang your bra to dry it as using the dryer can change the look and feel of your bra, as the heat will damage the elasticity.
It is recommended that you replace your bra every 6 – 9 months – or roughly every 130 wears. We’re definitely guilty of holding on to bras much longer than that, but you should be warned. Always pay particular attention to the elastic – because if this wears out your bra will not provide you with the proper support you need, and nobody wants that…!
