It's all about the Beauty Sleep

Quality sleep is just as important as the amount we need! The Sleep Foundation recommends that those of us between 18 – 64 should be getting 7 – 9 hours kip every night, but to get the sleep we need we should be looking at the broader picture, including lifestyle and health. Many of us don’t get the chance to chill out properly before we sleep, meaning that we’re still feeling tired after a restless night.

We know the value of beauty sleep, so we’ve come up with our top tips on how to make sure you’re getting the best beauty sleep possible!

Get out and exercise during the day! Making sure you get plenty of exercise in the day will help you to rest later at night. Get out in the fresh air and take a long walk to get yourself in the mood to snuggle up for a good night’s rest.

Give yourself some ‘me’ time. It’s important to indulge and have some time to pamper yourself in the evening. Why not run yourself a bath and sink into some lavender scented bubbles, light some candles and chill with a book. Aaand relax…

Make sure your room is at a comfortable temperature. Having your room too warm or too cold can cause restless sleep. Ultimately this is down to personal preference, but a gentle breeze combined with a warm duvet can help you to ease into a comfortable relaxing sleep.

Read a book in bed. If you are struggling to fall asleep because you’ve got a lot going on in your head, reading a book is a great way to take your mind to another world (quite literally) and before too long you’ll be struggling to keep your eyes open!

Avoid looking at your phone before going to sleep. Try not to scroll through Facebook and Instagram before you go to sleep. Not only is the light going to keep you awake for longer, but your brain also needs a chance to take a break and chill out from the world of endless articles before you can fully relax. (TIP – there is a handy option on smartphones that allow you to set a dimmer night time light to help you avoid straining your eyes in the evening)
