It’s been a long time since I’ve written a diary post!  It seems a good time to do a round up of the summer.  Like most of you, I imagine the summer has felt like a respite from the pandemic.  It’s still very much around, but it feels like we’re learning to live with it, and like most people, I was keen to make the most of freedom by seeing friends and family and travelling.  To that end, we released the most beautiful Nubian Skin collections yet, which were a celebration of colour, and our collection Jaiye (meaning enjoyment in Yoruba) was the perfect embodiment of that.

I started the summer in the US, and had a little pop up at the Rack Shack in New York.  It was so lovely to see some long time  fans of the brand and meet some new faces as well.

I’ve had fun this summer styling Nubian Skin with some amazing brands like Lisou London and Kai Collective.

Of course, globally it’s still a time of great uncertainty and navigating change, so as a business owner, I’m learning to roll with the punches.  The cost of living crisis isn’t going anywhere in the near term, and every single one of our suppliers and manufacturers has been affected, which in turn has affected our business, so I’m in the process of figuring out how we navigate operating in a more expensive environment when people also have less money to spend.  It’s meant we have to put some long-planned projects on hold, but we also have an announcement coming soon, which is probably the thing I am most proud of having accomplished with Nubian Skin.  Watch this Space.

 

It's hard to believe that it was 8 years ago that our first campaign when viral.  We’ve come a long way since then.  In October it will be eight years since Nubian Skin first launched, so I’m busy planning something special for that too. 

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned this summer is the importance of gratitude even in the midst of difficulties.  I am so grateful for an amazing team, a brilliant brand, and loyal customers – all who make the journey so much sweeter.
