March has been a month of movement! Nubian Skin kicked off the month moving studios. We just moved down the road, but we are in love with our new space, particularly our new view over the iconic Roundhouse in Camden!
We also celebrated International Women’s Day with out first Nubian Beings community event. It was fantastic. I hosted a panel of incredible women: Rene MacDonald (Lisou), Eva Sonaike (Eva Sonaike) and Abi Oyepitan (Liha Beauty). The conversation both on and off the stage was amazing, and I love the moments after when the community comes together to enjoy each other’s company and uplift each other.
The event was followed by another big move! This time my household. We moved home, and we’re currently living in the midst of some renovation works, but I absolutely love it, and I’m looking forward to making wonderful memories.
I rounded off the first full week of March with Mothering Sunday (UK Mother’s Day). My gorgeous baby wrote me a card, which melted my heart. The fact that he had spelled out 'mummy' so carefully was the sweetest thing. Then I was taken out to afternoon tea, and he slept through the whole thing.
The rest of the month was full of admin, both for Nubian Skin and personally. I did make time to see friends, which always fills me up, and visited a few art exhibitions which always leaves me feeling invigorated and inspired. I highly recommend visiting the Entangled Pasts exhibition at the Royal Academy and the Sargent and Fashion Exhibition at the Tate, both in London.
We had some hard-won wins for Nubian Skin, and slowly but surely I’m starting to settle into the new studio space.
I finished the month in the countryside for Easter. It’s been lovely introducing my son to the Easter story and the message of hope and life. We got very lucky for the Easter weekend, the sun came out for a bit. It was filled with family, friends, lots of baking and cooking, and of course Easter Eggs!
