Travel Tuesday: Postcard from Rome

Travel Tuesday: Postcard from Rome

What better way to kick of spring than a Roman holiday!  Given the record temperatures Rome hit last summer and stories of tourists passing out at the Coliseum, Spring seems a much gentler time to head to the Eternal City.  Now is the time to pack your favourite pieces of skin tone underwear and channel your inner Audrey Hepburn.

STAY

My family was recently in Rome, my son and I were tagging along for my husband's business trip.  We stayed at the Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel & Spa.  It's an old school, grand dame of a hotel, so not for those who like a sleek, modern stay, but the staff are incredibly charming, and the lobby and dining rooms impossibly pretty. It's also right next to the Villa Borghese Park, which has a lovely playground, perfect for keeping little ones entertained.

EAT

Pizza, Pasta and Gelato.  Who could ask for anything more?  Avoid the fluorescent coloured offerings of Gelato and look for the more muted natural colours, you'll be rewarded with superior flavour.  We loved Neve di Latte on Via Veneto.

DO

There is so much to see and do.  Don't miss the classics.  The Coliseum, The Pantheon, The Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain. Even just walking past is a feast for the eyes.  Walk around the city, pop into shops and museums, just enjoy!

WEAR

Spring in Rome is lovely, sunny and starting to get warm. Foundations are important, so don't forget your Nubian Skin pieces.  Warmer weather means lighter colours and fabrics, so pack a couple of seamless, naked briefs and a naked bras.  They'll see you through any outfit changes and are perfectly light weight and sweat wicking.  Cotton or linen shirts with cropped trousers and some comfortable flat shoes or sandals for walking is key.  If you're feeling romantic, slip on a shirt dress with a cinched in waist.
